With Lennon producing, he cut the bulk of what became the Rock'n'Roll album in October 1974, and handed the tapes to Levy. Within weeks, Roots was being advertised as a mail order release on TV. Although Lennon approved the deal, E.M.I. in the UK and Capitol Records in the US had not. In February 1975, a month after Lennon's reunion with Yoko Ono, Rock'n'Roll appeared. Featuring thirteen tracks, the set comprises some of Lennon's favorite Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Fats Domino songs, among others. Only four of its tracks were derived from the Spector sessions. Levy immediated sued Lennon for breach of contract, and Lennon proved the victor and was awarded damages for sales lost with Roots, which was quickly deleted.
