On its first day of release in the UK the album sold 60,000 copies, outselling the rest of the top 10 combined and setting it on course to become one of the fastest selling debuts ever.[6] It sold 180,000 copies in the UK alone in its first week, and consequently spent four weeks at the top spot. Despite falling to number 2 in the charts after the release of R.E.M.'s Accelerate, it again rose to the top a week later. This makes a cumulative total of 5 weeks in the number 1 spot.
