Roger C. Clinton, Sr. (July 25, 1908November 8, 1967) was Bill Clinton's stepfather. He owned a business with his brother, Raymond Clinton. He met and married Virginia Cassidy Blythe, mother of Bill Clinton, in about 1950. Bill, who then had the name William Blythe, the name of his late father, often had a good relationship with Roger, as shown by the fact that he began using the name Clinton. However, Roger Clinton often had problems with alcoholism and sometimes abused his wife, who eventually left him but then returned to him. When Bill Clinton left for college, Roger became very ill, and died of liver cancer. According to Bill Clinton's autobiography, Roger expressed sorrow for his alcoholism and abusive behavior before he died.
