The Scotsman - Obituaries - Peter Roger Stuart Moorey, Archaeologist (543 words)
ROGER Moorey, as everyone knew him, was one of the leading British Near Eastern archaeologists, and at the same time, the most modest of men.
Roger was persuaded to serve as the vicegerent of Wolfson College for two years following his retirement.
Alongside his curatorial duties at the Ashmolean, Roger managed to complete a doctorate, and follow that with a series of publications of the highest international scholarly significance.
Guardian Unlimited | Life | Obituary: Roger Moorey (714 words)
Roger Moorey, who has died aged 67, was one of the leading Levantine scholars of recent times, and for almost two decades keeper of the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford.
Moorey was a very quiet and private individual, yet was always prepared to give time and his expertise to students and members of the public who approached him with queries, both academic and trivial.
Moorey fell into this latter category, although this is not to say that he never did any field work.
