Roger was working as a Post Office clerk when he took on the role of Sandy Richardson in the ITV soap opera, Crossroads, a role he would play for 15 years.
Roger and Sandy both had tragic times in their life. Sandy was wheelchair bound after a car crash. In real life some years later, Roger would be confined to one too through his illness. Roger became the first disabled actor in a soap; however, it was something he always played down and his illness was never talked about.
He was 35 when he died and had been suffering from Hodgkin's disease since 1975.
Roger's only other television role was in the comedy series Nearest And Dearest, where he appeared in one episode in 1968.
