The RohtangPass connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahul and Spiti valleys of Himachal Pradesh, India.
The pass provides a natural cultural divide between the foothills and wet lowlands of northern India and its primarily Hindu culture, with the dry desert uplands north of the first range of the Himalayas and its mainly Buddhist and heavily Tibetan-influenced culture.
The road through the Kullu Valley, past Manali and over the RohtangPass to Keylong, and Lahul and on to Ladakh, has become very busy during the summer months as a military route, because of the troubles in Kashmir which have meant that the road from Srinagar to Leh is now less used.
RohtangPass at a height of 4,111 metres (13,400 ft.) reached by the worlds highest jeepable road right up to and even beyond, Keylong.
The road, that passes through Lahaul, starts from Rahalla falls, enters Lahaul by the RohtangPass, goes through Lahaul through Khoksar and Keylong and crosses out by the Baralacha-La. From Lahaul the Himalayas can be seen in all their mighty splendour.
Rohtangpass is the gateway to Lahaul valley just as Zojila pass in between Kashmir valley and Ladakh.
