Roland A. Anderson, 97, a patent lawyer for the Manhattan Project and the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, died Feb. 28 of congestive heart failure at Suburban Hospital.
Anderson served from 1942 to 1946 as deputy adviser on patent matters, Office of Scientific Research and Development, and from 1944 to 1946 as deputy chief of the Manhattan Engineer District, better known as the Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bomb.
Anderson retired from the Navy with the rank of commander in 1946.

Roland, entering his 34th year in the NFL and 26th as a league coach, is one of the most experienced coaches in pro history.
Roland was the man behind one of the top rushing units in NFL annals, the 1980s Bears, coaching the top two rushers for the league's oldest franchise.
Roland is one of seven in Packers history to serve multiple tenures as an assistant coach (also Zeke Bratkowski, John "Red" Cochran, Burt Gustafson, Tom Hearden, Tom Lovat and Bob Schnelker).
