The Diocese of San Jose in California was established on January 27, 1981, from territory formerly in the Archdiocese of San Francisco. The bishop's throne is located at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph. The diocese's metropolitan bishop is the Archbishop of San Francisco.
