The Rome Braves are a Class-A minor league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. In 2003, the team, previously known as the Macon Braves, moved from Macon, Georgia to Rome, Georgia, 60 miles northwest of Atlanta. Home games are played at State Mutual Stadium, which opened April 11, 2003 and seats 5,105. The stadium also features a lawn seating area known as "Applebee's Home Run Hill." In 1957, the Braves celebrated their first pennant in nine years led by Aaron's MVP season, leading the National League in home runs and RBIs.
During the Braves' rise to prominence in the early 1990s, their long-standing ethnic nickname came under much closer scrutiny.
In 2002, 2003, and 2004 the Braves won their division again, but lost in the NLDS in all three years 3 games to 2, to the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, and Houston Astros respectively.
