Ron Huldai (Hebrew: רון חולדאי) is an Israeli politician and former fighter pilot. He was born in 1944 in Kibbutz Hulda to Polish Jews from Łódź. He is a graduate of Tel Aviv University in history, Auburn University at Montgomery (Alabama), the U.S. Air Force Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base (Montgomery, AL), and the Advanced Management Program at Wharton College, University of Pennsylvania. In the course of his twenty six years of military service in the Israeli Air Force (1963-1989), he served as a combat pilot and held several key senior command positions. As Brigadier General, he was in charge of the Air Force Pilots Training School. He also served as a coordinator of the government authorities and supervisor of civilian construction projects for the IAF. The Israeli Air Force (IAF; Hebrew: זרוע האויר והחלל, Zroa HaAvir VeHaḤalal, Air and Space Division, commonly known as חיל האוויר Hel HaAvir) is the air force of the Israel Defense Forces. ... Following his retirement from active duty in 1989, he entered the private sector. Three years later, he was given the opportunity to fulfill one of his life-long dreams by becoming Principal of the first Hebrew high school in Tel Aviv, the prestigious high school “Gymnasia Herzlia”. Within three years, Huldai had transformed the school into a “pedagogical showcase”, setting an exceptional model of educational and organizational success to the education system in Israel-at-large. Herzliya Hebrew High School (Hebrew הגימנסיה העברית הרצליה, ha-gimnasia ha-ivrit hertselia) was founded in 1905 in Jaffa and named Ha-Gimnasia Ha-Ivrit (The Hebrew High School). ...


Huldai was first elected Mayor of Tel Aviv in 1998. In October 2003, he was reelected for a second term. Huldai’s vision for the city taking it into the 21st century is to create an urban showcase for the benefit of residents and Israeli society and the accomplishments of his administration have already had a demonstrable impact. Huldai’s vision for Tel Aviv is to further solidify the city as the epicenter of pluralism and liberalism, higher education, commerce, entertainment, tourism, scientific achievement, quality of life and the focal point of Israeli art and culture.
Huldai’s priorities reside in education, environment and senior citizens and through the Municipality of Tel Aviv, he allocates funding to build and improve schools, community centers and services – paying special attention to impoverished neighborhoods in the city.

Huldai told Heritage that he therefore has "two missions: first to keep the centrality of the city of Tel Aviv, because it is to the benefit of Tel Aviv to collect more revenues, but on the other hand, to be very careful so that the city doesn¹t become deserted because of the pollution."
Huldai said he had some successes in the San Diego area, although he declined to identify local donors.
