Calculating Whether a Color Fits into the Red, Rose, or Magenta Group of Shades Since the Red values for RGB=(255,0,0), and the Magenta values for RGB=(255,0,255), then the deciding factor which decides whether a color is in the red, rose, or magenta range (assuming the red value is above about 200), is the amount of blue in the color. Thus, a blue value of about 63.25 would be the approximate boundary between a color in the red group and a color in the rose group, and a blue value of about 190.75 would be the approximate boundary between a color in the rose group and a color in the magenta group. These rules can't be applied too rigidly. Some allowance must be made for aesthetics, naming conventions, etc. Some colors, such as Printer's Magenta (pigment Magenta), can be appropriately put in both the rose and the magenta groups of colors. It is well to remember that the placing of the colors in the different groups, like color itself, is an art as well as a science.
