In March 2007, Vasta was investigated by the Australian Federal Police in relation to allegations of misuse of electoral allowances. . However, the printing job which was the subject of the investigation was reportedly not ordered by Vasta. In June 2007, Ross Vasta paid the Department of Finance the sum of $24,000, which was later credited back to him by the Department[2]. However, on August 13 2007, Vasta had been told he had done nothing wrong and to expect a written clearance[2]. It was also confirmed that during the investigation, Mr Vasta was questioned only about the activities of one of his colleagues, not about his own spending.[2]. The Vasta Vouchers feature photographs of a smiling Mr Vasta, a member of a parliamentary health committee who in 2004 called on schools to encourage "healthy food choices".
Ross Vasta should be hanging his head in shame as he has shown blatant contempt for the efforts against childhood obesity by surreptitiously bribing young people to vote for him through distributing junk food vouchers bearing his image.
