Encyclopedia > Route 8 expressway

Route 8, Hong Kong is a dual 3-lane highway under construction which will link Lantau Island, Tsing Yi, West Kowloon and the Northeast New Territories of Hong Kong. It is a combination of many sections.

The section from Lantau to Tsing Yi is made up of the existing North Lantau Highway and Lantau Link, which was opened in 1997.

The next section between Tsing Yi and Cheung Sha Wan, formerly known as Route 16, will be a 7.6 km dual 3-lane highway. This section consists of the Stonecutters bridge, which will span the Rambler Channel and link with the Tsing Ma Bridge through the Nam Wan Tunnel and West Tsing Yi viaduct. This section is due to be completed by 2008.

The remaining section links Cheung Sha Wan and Sha Tin. It was formerly known as Route 9 and will be composed of the Eagle's Nest Tunnel and Sha Tin Heights Tunnel. The length of the section is 6 km and construction works will be completed in 2007.

CT 8 Expressway (2226 words)
A NEW EXPRESSWAY FOR THE ROUTE 8 CORRIDOR:
As for the old Route 8's path through the Naugatuck State Forest, I seem to remember that the northbound and southbound roadways were separated; the southbound roadway is the current alignment along the river, while the northbound roadway was to the east of the present roadway and a lot higher on the bank.
A drive down the 58-mile-long CT 8 Expressway provides a diverse vista of Connecticut, from the historic industrial towns of Bridgeport and Waterbury, to the modern, sprawling suburbs of eastern Fairfield County, and from the natural beauty of the Naugatuck River valley, to the forests of northwest Litchfield County.
Pittsburgh Highways:  Route 30 Relocation (Cancelled) (265 words)
The expressway was proposed to relieve the current US 30 alignment of congestion.
A second section of the Route 30 Relocation would have begun on the eastern side of the Greensburg Bypass at the Mount Pleasant/Greensburg interchange and continue east to Latrobe.
The right-of-way would have been upgraded to an expressway from that point to Ligonier, with an interchange built at PA 259.
