About Roxburgh Reivers
Roxburgh Reivers is a small orienteering club based in the Scottish Borders. Although the club has no actual 'centre', the majority of the members come from the towns surrounding the A7 road from Carlisle to Edinburgh, with a few from the eastern side of the region as well. Roxburgh Reivers' name comes from the former county name Roxburghshire and the name given to a band of local outlaws, the Border Reivers. Roxburgh Reivers is affiliated to the Scottish Orienteering Association and the British Orienteering Association. Roxburgh Reivers hold several events a year in various areas in the Scottish Borders and the club also help to put on a day at the Scottish Six Day Festival every two years, usually supplying at least one official (ie planner or organiser). The club usually holds one round of the South of Scotland Orienteering League and holds an annual Summer Series, consisting of four events on Wednesday evenings during May and June. Where do Roxburgh Reivers hold events? The majority of the mapped areas are in the upper River Tweed Valley near Peebles and Innerleithen. these forests include Elibank, Cardrona Forest and Glentress. Other mapped areas include Bowhill Estate (home to the Duke of Buccleuch), which was used for the Scottish Championships in 1993 and the Eildon Hills overlooking Melrose. There are also several smaller areas mapped, such as Bowmont Forest near Kelso, and street maps of many town centres.
