As Lincoln took in stride the taunts of hecklers, he argued that "this government can not endure permanently half slave and half free.
Dano's vocal delivery, done in a quiet, prayerful whisper, helped elevate this sequence into a moving, artistic triumph (even though most of the quote used is one that some Lincoln scholars have challenged the authenticity of).
Royal Dano by contrast, was an actor giving a Lincoln performance in his own, natural speaking voice because Walt Disney had felt he best resembled the contemporary descriptions of what Lincoln sounded like.
