The 2006 Royal Rumble was the nineteenth edition of the annual World Wrestling Entertainment Royal Rumble pay-per-view event. It took place on January 29, 2006, at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, Florida. It is a joint production of both the RAW and SmackDown! brands. Long wanted to help ensure fairness in the Rumble draw, but Mr. McMahon said he had it. It would indeed appear to be a fair draw through the night. Helping guard the lottery drum was Torrie Wilson, Victoria and Candice Michelle. He called in Randy Orton, who drew his ball and read the number inside, looking rather pleased with it. Mr. McMahon told Shelton to straighten his momma out. Shelton drew his number, looking happy with it, before saying he would eliminate "HBK" (Shawn Michaels). MNM came in, Mr. McMahon addressing Melina first. Melina addressed the "poor working conditions" at SmackDown! MNM then came in and drew their numbers: Mercury drew both balls, and Nitro picked his from the two before both read their numbers. Melina also declared that MNM would eliminate Shawn Michaels. With all the balls drawn, Mr. McMahon and the girls settled in on the sofa in the office to watch the Rumble.

• Rey Mysterio broke the record for lasting the longest in a Royal Rumble match by lasting 1:02:28. The previous record was 1:01:37, made by Chris Benoit at the 2004 Royal Rumble.
• Rey Mysterio became the first superstar in WWE history under 200 pounds to ever win the Royal Rumble, as well as the first masked superstar to win.
• Kane made his tenth appearance in a Royal Rumble match, tying the record for most Royal Rumble appearances with Rikishi. It also marked his eighth consecutive appearance in the Royal Rumble as Kane, breaking the previous record of seven consecutive appearances held by himself, Owen Hart and Rick Martel.
• This was the first Royal Rumble event since 1998 where the Royal Rumble match itself was not the final match on the card.
• During the Rumble match, Shane McMahon came in and eliminated Shawn Michaels after being distracted by Vince McMahon. • Ironically, the last 3 contestants in the Royal Rumble went on to challenge their brand's champion for the title at WrestleMania 22. Triple H took on John Cena for the WWE Championship and both Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio took on Kurt Angle for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Triple Threat Match. Mysterio was the only successful one, winning the title after a West Coast Pop to Orton. A simular situation occurred the previous year, when the last two participants, Batista and John Cena, would go on to face the World Heavyweight Champion and WWE Champion, respectively.
• Triple H participated in the Royal Rumble Match for the first time since 2002.
• With John Cena defeating Edge to regain the WWE Championship, the 2006 edition of the Royal Rumble was the first time since the 1999 Royal Rumble that the WWE Championship changed hands.
