Royal Troon Golf Club is a golf course located in Ayrshire, Scotland. The club was founded in 1878, and its Old Course is now one of the host courses for The Open Championship, one of the major championships on the PGA TOUR and PGA European Tour.
The 2004 Open Championship was held at Royal Troon, and was won by Todd Hamilton in a 4-hole playoff against Ernie Els.
Royal Troon is home to both the longest and shortest holes in championship golf. The par-3 8th hole ("Postage Stamp") measures a short 123 yards, while the par-5 6th ("Turnberry") is 601 yards long.
RoyalTroon was the last of the Royal Golf Clubs to be so honoured, gaining its title during its own centenary year of 1978.
One of the abiding memories of a visit to RoyalTroon, apart from the golf course, is dinner in the club restaurant, surrounded by the wonderful oil paintings looking down from the paneled walls listening to both the tales of woe and glory from golfers visiting, from different parts of the globe.
RoyalTroon is a course worthy of the game, and is a challenge not to be missed by any golfing enthusiast.
