They became members of the Lancashire Combination in the same year, winning a cup. They were founder members of the Cheshire County League in 1919, and were its first champions. They won the double in 1937, winning both the league and the League Cup in the same year. After World War II, Runcorn had a lot of members quit, and they were no longer a powerful team. They were founder members of the Northern Premier League in 1969 and won the Cheshire Senior Cup in 1973. In 1988, for the first time ever, Runcorn reached the finals of the FA Trophy, but lost 0-1 to Altrincham. In 1993-94, their stadium nearly fell apart. A perimeter wall collapsed during a cup game against Hull, the roof blew off of a stand, and the main stand was destroyed by a fire. This crippled the team, and they were relegated in 1996 for the first time ever. In 2000, they sold the Canal Street grounds where they had played since 1918, and moved to an 11,000-seat stadium called Halton Stadium. In 2004, they finished in 13th place in their league, promoting them to the new Conference North. 1937 was a common year starting on Friday (link will take you to calendar). ...
