In the computer game Diablo II, a rune is a small stone, marked with a glyph, that can be inserted into socketed items -- such as weapons or armor -- in the game environment. If a player puts certain combinations of runes into an item of the correct item type, the item will acquire extra powers, depending on the rune word spelt-out by the glyphs.
Rune can also mean an abbreviated version of Runite, a fictional metal in the MMORPGRuneScape
