Plot

Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) has been sent to America from Hong Kong to investigate the kidnapping of Chinese consul Han's daughter, Soo Yung, who had been trained in martial arts by Lee. However, the FBI (who are working on the case themselves) do not want an outsider like Lee to interfere with their investigation so they palm him off with LAPD detective James Carter (Chris Tucker), a fast talking and comically arrogant police officer. The two men do not remotely get along, but when they discover that they are being used, they set out to try to solve the case themselves. They find out the person behind it is Juntao, a Chinese terrorist. And before a brawl in a Chinese restaurant, Carter sees the real identity of Juntao briefly on a T.V. screen. Griffin, who is a friend to Consul Han is really Juntao. Sang (Ken Leung) calls the consul and tells him that because of Lee and Carter's brawl at the restaurant, the ransom increases and he begins threatening Soo Yung's life. Sang tells the consul that he must bring the money to the Chinese expo. Lee is forced to go back to China and Carter is forced to stay off the case. But Carter realizes that it is not about him it is about the life of Soo Yung so he goes back for Lee and they go to the Chinese expo in the Los Angeles Convention Center. While Carter distracts the crowd, Lee sees Juntao getting a detonator from Sang. This later leads to a climactic battle of bullets and martial arts. In the end, Juntao is killed after falling from the catwalk and Sang is killed by gunfire by Carter. Han and Soo Yung are reunited and Carter and Lee go on a vacation to China (but Carter is shocked because the flight is 15 hours). Reception

Rush Hour opened at #1 at the North American box-office with a weekend gross of $33 million in September 1998. Rush Hour grossed over $244 million worldwide.[1]

While it gained positive reviews from critics, some people criticized the movie for being a rip-off of Lethal Weapon while some noted that Jackie Chan's performance was nowhere near as lively as his previous roles (in Hong Kong movies, Chan enjoyed total creative freedom and was typically given limited creativity in Hollywood productions) and that his stunts were no longer death-defying or impressive [citation needed]. Many critics praised Chris Tucker for his comical acts in the film and how he and Chan formed an effective comic duo.[2] This article does not cite any references or sources. ...

Trivia

  • There is a scene where Chan and Tucker grab each other's hands and swing to kick their friends' opponents; it is the same move used by Michael Winslow and Brian Tochi in Police Academy 3: Back In Training. This move is also used in Rush Hour's sequel, Rush Hour 2.
  • Near the beginning, when Chris Tucker causes the car explosion, he starts to dance to the Michael Jackson song "Another Part of Me" played in his Disneyland exclusive movie Captain EO.
  • Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan became such good friends over the course of the movie that they planned to try out for Amazing Race Celebrity Edition, but the show fell through.[citation needed]
  • The gun used by Chris Tucker's character is a modification of a standard Beretta 92 pistol.
  • Carter's car is a reference to the LL Cool J song "Going Back to Cali". In the song, LL says the line, "The top is down on the black Boxster, and its fly because its sitting on Daytons." Carter's car is a black Porsche Boxster convertible that always has its top down when seen in the film, and it has chrome Dayton rims. The car also appears in Rush Hour 2 and Rush Hour 3.
  • In various scenes, Soo-Yung's age varies from 10 to 11.
  • While Consul Han and his daughter Soo Yung do not appear in the subsequent film Rush Hour 2, they will play integral roles in the latest installment of the franchise, Rush Hour 3. Actor Tzi Ma will reprise his role as Consul Han. However, due to the time passing between the first and the third films, the now older Soo Yung will be played by actress Jingchu Zhang.
  • Actor Tzi Ma, who plays the Chinese Consul in the film, also plays Cheng Zi, the head of security at the Chinese Consulate in the television series 24.
  • While Captain Diel did not appear in the final cut of Rush Hour 2, Philip Baker Hall did in fact film a scene between himself and Chris Tucker's character that was ultimately left out. With this scene out of the final cut, only Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are returning characters for the immediate sequel.
  • Chris Tucker instructs Jackie's character to look at the Grauman's Chinese Theater footprint of John Wayne, Inspector Lee responds by saying "Chon Wang?” In the movie Shanghai Noon, his character is named "Chon Wang", as homage to this scene.
  • In every Rush Hour movie, the villian dies after falling from a height. Ex. In Rush Hour, Juntao dies after falling from the ceiling, in Rush Hour 2, Ricky Tan dies after being kicked by Lee through a window, in Rush Hour 3, Kenji dies from falling into an Eiffel Tower booth.
  • In both films, Rush Hour and Rush Hour 3, both characters in the end dance and sing to "WAR" by Edwin Starr.
  • Chris Penn & Clifton Powell later appear as voice actors in the 2004 video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as "Officer Pulaski" and "Big Smoke" respectively.

Rush Hour 3 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (226 words)
Rush Hour 3 is the third installment in the action comedy film series starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, that began with Rush Hour (1998) and continued with Rush Hour 2 (2001).
The film has been recently delayed and was pushed back to 2006.
The sequel will be set starting in New York City, where Rush Hour 2 left off, then into an undecided country in Africa, rumors that Jackie Chan prefers it to be in Egypt, yet Chris Tucker, South Africa.
RUSH HOUR 2 - INFINIFILM DVD (865 words)
That Rush Hour 2 (and the Pink Panther saga, for that matter) is often so genial in its cheap humour and gratifying in its physical exertions speaks to an almost universal desire to see people get a pie in the face while inelegantly breaking societal taboos.
While Rush Hour 2 is the latest title in New Line's sensational "infinifilm" line of DVDs, its extras don't soar to the heights of their "Platinum Series" Rush Hour disc, which contains among other things a fly-on-the-wall segment showing Jackie Chan's choreography of a scene that is unparalleled in its candour.
The 4-minute "The Fashion of Rush Hour 2" is funny for the presence of Jeremy Piven, selecting his wardrobe and finding his feminine side, but the multi-angle visual effects deconstruction (of the American Embassy explosion) has been done better elsewhere.
