São Martinho (Portuguese meaning Saint Martin) is a parish in the western part of the city of and a suburb of Funchal in the Madeira Islands. The population in 2001 is 20,636, its density is 2,560.3/km² and the area is 8.06 km²/806 ha. The parish covers the western portion of the downtown area of Funchal. It is located about 3 to 4 km W of Funchal and nearly 3 km E of Câmara de Lobos. The main industry are business. It is connected with a secondary road linking Funchal and Estreito de Câmara de Lobos and north to Curral das Freiras along with the northern suburbs of Funchal. The Atlantic Ocean is to the south including the main highway. The mountain slope lies to the north and a small mountaintop about 1 km SE elevating 262 m. The eastern part has the overview of the panorama of most of Funchal and the environs and the mountains to the eastern part and Câmara de Lobos and the environs including Cabo Girão to the west.
