The Division was not considered to be an elite SSDivision because of the manner that members of the unit were allowed to join, resulting in the wearing of the Ordnungpolizei uniform with a Heer Eagle on the arm.
Finally, in January, 1942, the Division was given "offical" Waffen SS status, and its title was changed to the SSPolizeiDivision.
