As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 620,086 and the density of 6,858.60 persons per km². The total area is 90.41 km².


The city gained a city status on November 20, 1954.

The main areas of commercial activity in Sagamihara are located around the train stations JR Sagamihara and JR Hashimoto on the JR Yokohama line, and Odakyu Sagami-ÅŒno on the Odakyu Odawara line.
