Sahara TV was launched in 2000 as a 24-hour Hindi entertainment channel. In early 2003 it was rechristened as Sahara Manoranjan. It had roped big Indian movie stars like Hema Malini, Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon to act in its serials. On 10th October 2004, the Channel became SaharaOne with the launch of The First Indian Sangeet Awards held at the Royal Albert Hall, London. SaharaOne Television provides a strong mix of engrossing fiction & non-fiction entertainment and is popular for its star-studded mega events, dramas, kids’ programming, thrillers, feature films & film-based programmes, and much more. Even as it provides a variety of shows across all the above genres, Sahara One Television is also focusing on providing an entertaining and engrossing portrayal of strong, independent thinking Indian women in its soaps and serials. These include Kituu from Kituu…Sabb Jaantii Hai, Shyamlee from Hare Kkaanch Ki Choodiyan, and Rani of Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, who have become household names among television viewers. The channel re-launched Ramesh Sippy’s Buniyaad in January 2006, the show that laid the foundation for the television industry. One of its much awaited programme is Mission Ek Crore, for which it will be acquiring services of Bollywood movie star Sanjay Dutt as the host. This is being done as part of an over all corporate restructuring that was effected recently whereby all the functioning of Sahara’s media and entertainment businesses have been put under the management of a 50:50 joint venture company in which Percept Finserve is also a partner with Sahara.
