Saint Godehard (also known as Gothard or Godehard the Bishop) is a Roman-Catholicsaint. He was born in 960 in Bavaria. His father worked for the canons of Niederaltaich. Godehard joined the canons in 990, and became their provost in 996. He helped reintroduce the Benedictine rule at Niederaltaich, which then sent abbots to Tegernsee, Hersfeld and Kremsmunster to revive the Rule of Benedict. He became bishop of Hildesheim in 1022. He remained bishop of Hildesheim until his death in 1038. He was canonized in 1131. His feast day is May 4.
