It was founded in 1694 under the name "Academia Domnească de la Sfântul Sava" (The Royal Academy from Saint Sava) during the rule of Constantin Brâncoveanu, being located in the buildings of Saint Sava Monastery, which were located in the place where now stands the Bucharest University.
