Life

Salimuzzan was born in a literary family of Lucknow on October 19, 1897. Received his early education from Lucknow, Graduated from M.A.O College Aligarh University in 1919 and in 1927 received D.Phil. Nat, for his work in Germany. He, right from his early schooling, was keenly involved in drawing, painting and sculpture, to the extent that after barely completing his matriculation he joined the Calcutta School of Arts, and was a pupil of Rabindranath Tagore, the founder of the famous Bengal School of painting. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1961, Dr. Salimuzzam was a recipient of Tamgha-e-Pakistan (1958), Sitara-e-Imtiaz (1962), President's Pride of Performance Medal (1966), Hilal-e-Imtiaz (1980). He was awarded gold medal of the Soviet Academy and D. Med. Honoris causa from the Frankfurt University in 1958. Dr. Siddiqui was a founder-member of the Indian and Pakistan Academies of Sciences.
