Samaron is a prominent Somali clan. Its members live predominantly in the Awdal region of northwest Somalia, and in smaller numbers in the Galbed region. Their history dates back to the Adal civilization of present-day Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, and Ethiopia. They have a literacy rate of 65% and are thus prominent in Somali educational departments. Although there is no functioning central government in Somalia, and Somaliland is not internationally recognized, the Samaron tribe has its own unversity, Amoud University.
