SANMARCOS – The city's Fire Department continues to improve its service, according to a national fire-protection rating organization, which means businesses can expect to pay less for insurance.
Webb said the department went from a 4 rating to a 3 in 2000, but requested a re-evaluation in June, primarily because of major improvements and expansion of services the department has made in recent years.
He said SanMarcos becomes the fifth city in the county to receive an ISO 2 rating, joining El Cajon, Escondido, La Mesa and Santee.
SANMARCOS ---- With new stations, updated equipment and a recently expanded staff, the SanMarcos Fire Department has not only kept pace with the needs of San Diego County's fastest-growing city, but has also improved its ability to protect it.
A major part of the increase is the nine firefighters the district hired this year to serve at a new fire station in the southwest SanMarcos area of San Elijo Hills.
The Rancho Santa Fe Road station and the new station near San Elijo are part of the department's efforts to increase its coverage of the city's 73,000 residents.
