A vast area embracing the middle and south forks of SanPedro Creek, which are Steelhead spawning grounds, this park is nestled amongst the Santa Cruz Mountain range and the foothills of Pacifica.
SanPedro Valley soon became an important link in the Spanish Mission System, for it offered valuable resources, which could not be produced in San Francisco at Mission Dolores.
SanPedro Valley County Park is also supported by an active volunteer group known as the Friends of SanPedro Valley Park. These volunteers staff the park's visitor center and provide various programs and activities that help Park Rangers maintain the facilities and the environment of this County Park.
SanPedro was founded near the modern town of Choloma, but moved closer to the Chamelecon river sometime in the 16th century.
SanPedro was sacked and burned in the 17th century, and the city moved again, this time to its modern location, further south and away from the rivers.
SanPedro, whose name has evolved over the years to SanPedro Sula (after the mines to the west), was officially recognized as a city by the Congress of Honduras on October 8,2002, long after it had grown to be the industrial capital of Honduras, and the second largest city in the country.
