KSV (Katholieke Studenten Vereniging - catholic student society) Sanctus Virgilius (aka Virgiel) is the largest student society in Delft. Espousing the system which he had been taught in his own country, Virgilius defended the sphericity of the earth, and from thence deduced corollaries and scholiums which proved by no means agreeable to the taste or opinion of those who still adhered to the once admired, but now exploded, hypothesis of the old school.
Virgilius considered himself unworthy to be raised to this exalted dignity, and continued for two years in his refusal, until at length, being prevailed upon by the Bishops of the province and by the clergy and people, he submitted to the appointment.
