The Sandringham railway line is a suburbanrailway in Melbourne, Australia. It branches from other southeastern lines (Caulfield group) at South Yarra station. It serves the City of Bayside, and small sections cover the City of Glen Eira, City of Port Phillip, City of Stonnington, and the City of Yarra. Various sections of the track opened between 1859 and 1857, and in May, 1919, the whole line was electrified.
Infrastructure
The line consists of dual tracks all the way from Sandringham station to the begginning of South Yarra station where it runs alongside the Frankston, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines into Flinders Street. The maximum permissible train speed is 70 km/h for the distance between South Yarra and Sandringham. The line has a total of 11 level crossings between South Yarra and Sandringham, one of which (New St.) is among the last remaining manually operated in Melbourne. There are two sidings, Sandringham and Brighton Beach, the latter now disused.
