Sta. Maria is a 4th class municipality located at the other end of Laguna. Bounded by the provinces of Rizal and Quezon from the western portion up to the northern tip down north eastern part, the town has a mountainous terrain. With the MARILAQUE Sub-Regional Plan (Manila,Rizal,Laguna,Quezon), the municipality functions as link between the highly industrialized capital and the marine life-rich Quezon province. This is the reason why access roads to the Marcos Highway form part of the Comprehensive Development Plan of the municipality prepared to cover a 10-year period. As new settlements and support services come to rise under the MARILAQUE Development Plan there would also be the surge of probable sources of income and livelihood which have long been very limited locally, because of its geographical location and natural features. It is on this ground that a springboard to development is set to attain the vision about STA. MARIA, LAGUNA
