He was most famous for his role as Will Hughes (usually just referred to as "Grandpa") on the soap operaAs the World Turns, a role he played from 1956 until shortly before his death in 1976.
He was also very active in radio, starring in a Nero Wolfe series and narrating a popular radio show called Gangbusters.
Interestingly enough, it’s SantosOrtega who’s identified primarily with this first broadcast run (as since of the three actors who voiced Wolfe, he remained for the longest duration).
All we have to go on at the moment is the only available episode, "The Last Laugh Murder Cause", which aired sometime in 1944 with SantosOrtega and we’re not entirely sure when Ortega left and was replaced with van Rooten.
Which means there’s a rough estimate of about sixty (60) episodes for the first run series from the original 4/7/43 broadcast to the 7/14/44 broadcast.
Police say Ortega and Santos had operated a large-scale drug distribution network from a rented cabin at the Edelweiss Motel on Route 4 in Mendon since January.
Ortega, who was born in Puerto Rico and had a translator at the court hearing, tried to discipline his retailers with threats, according to court documents.
The charges against Ortega and Santos, which carry a maximum of 50 years in jail and fines of $2 million, are "among the most serious this court deals with on a regular basis," Judge Nancy Corsones said.
