The Sapotaceae are trees and shrubs which are usually found in the lowland wet forests in the tropics.
The species of Sapotaceae in the neotropics have been revised for Flora Neotropica and those of Africa are also relatively well-known.
In the case of the Sapotaceae, it is not possible to do this because the species is not well known, and there are no easy keys to identification for the foresters to use.
