Sarutahiko is a powerful guradian kami whom is enshrined in the name of Tsubaki Jinja and the Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America. He is the leader of earthy kami and guarding of the floating bridge of heaven. He appears in the Kojiki (recored of ancient matters) a number of times along with his wife Ame-No-Uzume. Sarutahiko is depicted as a towering man with a large beard, jeweled spear, and distinctive nose. Sarutahiko is also a figure of strength and willpower. This is depicted in a section of the Kojiki that describes the Grandson of the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu, who is ready to take control of the world. He refuses to leave earth until his soon to be wife, Ame-No-Uzume comes provocitively to convincehim to change his mind.
