Satake clan (佐竹氏)- Japanese clan that had the pinnacle of its power during the 16th century. The Satake would primarily battle against various other clans such as the Asahina clan (not to be confused with the Ashina clan), resulting in the attainment of the Yuki province. One chief supporter of the Satake was Satake Yoshiaki who had also battled against Oda general Oda Ujiharu --whom he had defeated-- along with the Soma clan. After Yoshiaki had died due to bad health, Satake Yoshishige, Yoshiaki's son, took his place as the successor of the clan. As with his father, Yoshishige had elaborated on his feats by battleing in many campaigns against the Oda, Shirakawa, Asahina, and Naya. Yoshishige himself gave a high reputation towards the Satake clan, in which he later become known as "Devil Yoshishige". After some time, Satake Yoshinobu would succeed to the clan by Yoshishige's consent, and it was Yoshinobu who was the first Satake daimyo during the Edo period. However, Yoshinobu would assist in the bad reputation of the clan by performing very poorly during the Sekigahara Campaign, even to the extent that Yoshishige had to be very careful to not lose his land as others had (such as Soma Yoshitane and others).
