The Satish Dhawan Space Centre, located in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, in India, is the launch centre for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The centre is roughly 100 kilometres north of Chennai in South India at 13°47' North 80°15' East. Originally called the Sriharikota High Altitude Range (SHAR) as well as the Sriharikota Launching Range, the centre was renamed in 2002 after the death of the ISRO's former chairman Satish Dhawan. The space centre has kept the title SHAR during these name changes. Sriharikota is an island off the coast of Andhra Pradesh in India. ...
