Scottish & Newcastle is one of the world's leading brewers, and the largest British brewing company (unless London-based SABMiller, which does very little business in the UK, is counted as British). It is headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland and is a FTSE 100 Index company.


Its biggest brands include Newcastle Brown Ale, Kronenbourg (the most popular French beer brand) and Courage ale. It also owns the European rights to Fosters Lager.


Other brands owned by Scottish and Newcastle include

  • Strongbow

In 2003, it expanded into the cider market with the purchase of leading cider maker Bulmer's.
