Sean Hughes (born John Hughes, London, November 19, 1965) is an Irish comedian who, whilst being born in London, spent much of his youth in Firhouse, Dublin. He had an unhappy childhood moving from school to school, and found it hard to make friends. It was his desire to escape from this unhappiness that first led him into comedy. Sean Michael Hughes is a farmer from County Armagh, Ireland.
He is the brother of Paul Hughes who as a member of the Provisional IRA was convicted of murdering two Australian tourists (mistaken for British servicemen) in Roermond, Netherlands in 1990 and who was cleared of murdering Major Mike Dillon-Lee in Dortmund the same year.
He is believed to have lost interest in serving on the council because the IRA has become inactive, though his departure is not seen as a protest.
