Sebokeng is black township set up by the then apartheid government in southern Gauteng, South Africa near the industrial city of Vanderbijlpark. Some of the burnt bodies were taken to the Sebokeng Mortuary because of its proximity to the scene of the accident.
Sebokeng mortuary spokesperson John Ramathe confirmed to Vaal Weekly's sister publication that the bodies of the dead children were burnt beyond recognition.
Initial reports indicate that the accident was caused when the driver of the BMW lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an oncoming taxi, leading to the untimely death of the children and himself.
