The Secchia is an Italian river. It runs through Emilia-Romagna, and is one of the main tributaries on the right-hand side of the Po. It is 172 km (107 mi) long, and has a catchment basin with a surface of 2,292 km²; alternating between aridity in summer and fullness in spring and autumn. It originates close to the pass of Cerreto in the Tuscan-Emillian Apennines, then it heads north, touching on the territory of Frigano, passing into the territory of the commune of Pavullo nel Frigano and reaching the Padanian plane close to Sassuolo (in the province of Modena). Here it touches on the city of Modena and, with its riverbank protected by embankments, runs into the Po just south of Mantova, close to the mouth of the Mincio. Secchia is a close personal friend and advisor of former-President Gerald R. Ford and was on the national advisory committee of the 1988 George Bush for President Committee.
Secchia was honored in 1994 as the Master Entrepreneur of the Year for Michigan and in 1995 as the Businessman of the Year and has been involved with numerous civic organizations promoting economics and assisting underprivileged youth.
Secchia is on the Executive Committee of the Gerald R. Ford Foundation and is the overseer of the Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids and Ford Presidential Library in Ann Arbor, Michigan and is the past chairman of the library's Endowment Committee and Strategic Planning Committee.
