Second Thoughts is a 1976 album by New Zealand art rock band Split Enz. It was recorded in London with Roxy Music's guitarist Phil Manzanera producing the album. Five of the songs on the album comprised of reworked versions of songs from their 1975 debut album Mental Notes. Two other songs on the album had been first recorded during the Mental Notes sessions, but left out of that album, were re-recorded and appear on Second Thoughts. It has been suggested that Experimental Rock be merged into this article or section. ... In fact this album was called Mental Notes when released outside of Australasia and also featured a reworked version of the Mental Notes cover (for comparison see original and remake). Second Thoughts was based upon the real-life relationship of the writers, husband and wife Etherington and Petrie.
Created for BBC radio, Second Thoughts followed soon after, Petrie crafting the characters and storylines and Etherington adding the dialogue, recalling how, when they first met, Petrie was a wealthy bachelor while Etherington was up to her eyes in children and dogs.
The fifth series of Second Thoughts was weaker than the others (it was the first stretch of episodes not to have been written for radio), with a clear shift in emphasis away from Faith and Bill towards the lives of the children and other characters.
