Encyclopedia > Seneca River

The Seneca River in Central New York State flows from west to east, from the Montezuma Swamp to the Seneca's confluence with the Oneida and Oswego Rivers at the the Three Rivers area north of Syracuse. The Oswego empties the water of the other two rivers into Lake Ontario. The Erie Canal follows most of the length of the Seneca, with only a few minor shortcuts.

Seneca River (1010 words)
The deployment of the robotic buoys (two) in the Seneca River in 2001 (above the CUT and in Baldwinsville) is intended to demonstrate impacts of the invader on the river.
Salinity stratification was much stronger in the river before closure of the soda ash/chlor-alkali plant on Onondaga Lake, associated with the higher salinity of Onondaga Lake, which was caused by the greater loading of ionic waste from the operating facility.
The oxygen depletion in the lower stratified layer of the river (contains Onondaga Lake outflow) is attributable to its isolation from the oxygen sources of reaeration (input from the air) and photosynthesis (because of inadequate light), combined with the continued exertion of oxygen consuming processes (e.g., plankton respiration).
Seneca Falls (village), New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (736 words)
The village was named after a 40-foot waterfall on the Seneca River which drains Keuka Lake, Seneca and Cayuga Lakes of the Finger Lakes.
The river has been canalized for navigation, to connect Seneca and Cayuga Lakes with the Erie Canal, bypassing the falls.
By the mid 19th Century, Seneca Falls was the third largest flour milling center in the world, after Rochester and Oswego.
