The tribe Senecioniae sits within the plant family Asteraceae and contains many genera including the huge assemblage of species within the type genus Senecio. Its members exhibit probably the widest possible range of form to be found anywhere in the entire plant kingdom and include annuals, minute creeping Alpines, perennial herbs, shrubs, climbers, leaf succulents, stem & root succulents, trees and semi-aquatic plants.
He retired from K-State in 1998 and moved to Fort Worth, where he was a Research Associate at BRIT until his death.
Ted was well-known for his research on the systematics of the North American Senecioneae (Asteraceae), especially Senecio, Packera, and allied genera.
At K-State, he spent most Saturdays in his office in the herbarium perfecting manuscripts, listening to the Metropolitan Opera on the radio, and breaking for a pot of Lapsang Souchong or Oolong in the mid-afternoon.
