Senshido ("Way of 1000 Masters") is an eclectic form of reality-based self defense and mixed martial art, based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada - created in 1994 by Richard Dimitri. 1994 (MCMXCIV) was a common year starting on Saturday of the Gregorian calendar, and was designated like the International Year of the Family and the International Year of the Sport and the Olympic Ideal. // Events January Bill Clinton January 1 : North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) goes into effect. ...

Senshido is a martial art that is purely geared towards self defence. The syllabus emphasises simple gross motor skills such as low kicks, punches, bites, slaps, and chokes which are easy for students to remember and perform in a confrontation.

As well as simple physical fighting skills, the curriculum places a large emphasis on environmental awareness, verbal de-escalation skills, and the emotional and legal aspects of modern combat.

As explained by founder Richard Dimitri: "Senshido is not a style and doesn’t teach memorization of techniques. Rather than provide technical aspects for people to use in particular situations, we provide analytical skills that will be useful in any situation."

Senshido delves deeper into the physical and athletic components of the 5 ranges (Kicking, Boxing, Close Quarter Combat, Grappling and Ground Fighting) and is bio-mechanically more enhanced as it is offered in longer periods of time (months or years) for people who wish to continuously train and improve as fighters on a holistic level.
