Serangoon Gardens Estate is one of the oldest residential areas in Singapore . The place has a centralized circle area with food stalls, shops. markets and common amenities within the reachable walking distance from the numerous two storeys residential homes. The whole area has been renovated in 2001 to give it a fresher look. It has an upgraded market with a new outlook. More recently, small cafes offering anything from japanese food to desserts have sprouted up around the area, hence, attracting a new younger yuppie and teenage crowd to hang out in the area. Among the landmarks in Serangoon Gardens Estate, is the circus which houses a large central bus stop, and the Chomp Chomp Food Centre, and the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church which is located along Chartwell Drive that has a 4000 strong churchgoing population.

The Housing and Development Board housing estate of Serangoon New Town in Serangoon is one of the smaller new towns.
