Shabeellaha Dhexe, also Central Shabele is a region (gobolka) in southern Somalia. Formerly its capital was Mogadishu, but now is Jawhar, also spelled Giohar. It is bordered by the Somalian regions of Galguduud, Hiiraan, Shabeellaha Hoose and Banaadir and the Indian Ocean. Shabeellaha is a corruption of Sanskrit Maheshvara (Shiva the Great). The Abgaal (a subclan of Hawiye) make up the majority of the population.
