Background

In his fortress in the Silverpine Forest the dark wizard Arugal's machinations are concocting a devious scheme. For many of the Forsaken, it will be their first instanced dungeon. The instance level requirements are around 26-30. The instance is full of various undead and Worgen. There are several named bosses, such as Fenrus the Devourer, Wolf-Master Nandos, and Odo the Blindwatcher. The main boss is Archmage Arugal, who drops the best loot in the instance. The instance also offers Forsaken players their first chance to get rare (or blue) gear. The instance is known for its good cloth drops that are sought-after by many casters, such as the Belt of Arugal, Robes of Arugal and Feline Mantle. In addition to amazing loot, the Keep also offers some of the game's most intense music. The Forsaken are a group of Undead independent of the Lich King in the Warcraft Universe. ... Also, Alliance Paladins must travel to this instance to retrieve a hammer for a smith as part of a quest to receive Verigan's Fist, a blue two-handed hammer. This is usually done in the low level 20s.

Shadowfang Keep also holds part of the Orb of Soran'ruk, a Warlock quest for both Horde and Alliance.

As well as some quest benefits, it does hold some loot threshold also. A few low level blue (rare) items are dropped in this instance, which are highly requested by level 19 "twinks" or people who usually have a better account, with lots of in-game money, and look to enhance a lower level character to the max by giving it the best gear possible. This is usually done for Battleground purposes, so the low level can dominate other characters in the Battleground.

This instance is also highly 'farmed' or beaten repeatedly by high level characters. Because these rare items are in such high demand, they usually go for a high amount of money in the auction houses. Some high levels will farm this instance for their Epic Mount.
