Shah Azizur Rahman was the prime minister of Bangladesh from 1978 to 1982. During this period he headed the government formed by the Bangladesh National Party, which first came to power in the elections for the second parliament held on 18 February, 1978. The party was formed, and the election called, by Ziaur Rahman who had then come to power through a military coup. Rahman continued to be the prime minister after Zia was assassinated in a failed military coup in 1981 and Abdus Sattar became the president.
